Head Varsity Men’s Basketball Coach at West Mecklenburg High School (2006 -present). Inheriting a program that averaged 7 wins a year the past 10 years, the 2007 team made a tremendous turn around winning the schools first conference championship since 1991 with a record of 19-10. Coach Kirby was named Queen City Conference Coach of the Year. Prior to becoming the Head Coach at West Mecklenburg High School Coach Kirby was a long time Assistant Coach at David W. Butler High School. While at Butler the men’s program won 3 conference championships, two second place finishes and qualified for the state playoffs 5 out of 7 years. The program also had 2 sectional championship appearances winning one sectional championship and made one regional playoff appearance. Coach Kirby has worked summer camps for the University of North Carolina, University of South Carolina, NC State, Catawba, Antwan Jamison, Raymond Felton and the late Bobby Hussey (Former Clemson Assistant). Coach Kirby has been a member of the H.O.O.P.S basketball camps staff for the past 7 years(2000-2007)
